Yes. A valid referral from your GP or another medical practitioner is required for all specialist consultations. Medicare will only provide a rebate on your consultation fee if you have a current referral. Please email your referral to info@ssws.xestro.com (for referrals) before your appointment, or ask your GP's practice to send it directly using HealthLink EDI: sswspecs.

Wait times vary depending on the specialist and the clinical urgency of your referral. Urgent referrals are triaged and prioritised accordingly. If you have concerns about your wait time, please call our office on (02) 4607 2526 between 8am–4pm Monday to Friday.

First appointments typically take between 30 and 45 minutes, depending on the complexity of your presentation. Please plan to arrive at least 10 minutes early to complete intake paperwork.
Absolutely. We encourage you to bring a support person — a family member or close friend can help you recall information discussed during your consultation and provide important support during your appointment.

Following your appointment, your specialist will prepare a detailed letter for your GP summarising the consultation findings, diagnosis (if applicable), investigations ordered, and any treatment plan. Your GP will receive this letter and remains an important partner in your ongoing care. If you have follow-up questions, you are always welcome to contact our office.
